If you choose to build your own website (instead of using a website builder), you will need to know HTML and CSS. You should also have a basic understanding of web hosting, and more specifically, how to select a hosting provider. It would be beneficial to have at least a basic knowledge of JavaScript and web graphics. That should do you for a basic website. If you want to build more advanced websites, you should learn a server side scripting language such as PHP or ColdFusion. You should also learn about databases, and more specifically, SQL.
