Munculnya Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta yang mempunyai tampilan yang sama dengan Google Chrome dan Opera 10. Mozilla Firefox 4 tersebut diklaim sebagai browser yang cepat dan kompatibel dengan standard HTML 5. Mozilla Firefox 4 juga meningkatkan proteksi crash, atau kerusakan dalam Web. Jadi, jika sewaktu-waktu satu tab mengalami kerusakan tidak akan mempengaruhi Web secara keseluruhan.

Untuk mengetahui fitur-fitur baru dari Mozilla firefox 4 tersebut, kita tidak perlu kuatir untuk menginstall Firefox 4 beta ini jika sudah mempunyai Mozilla Firefox 3.6. Firefox 4 beta tidak akan menindas firefox 3.6 kita yang lama, tapi hanya mengimport data pribadi yang ada di firefox lama. Jadi kita tetap dapat menggunakan salah satu firefox tersebut, tapi tidak bersamaan terbuka.

Dulu waktu pertama kali munculnya firefox 4 beta ini yang membuatku jarang memakainya adalah belum tersedianya add-ons mozilla firefox 4. Semua add-ons yang ada di mozilla firefox 3.6 tidak support di mozilla firefox 4 beta.

Dengan bergulirnya waktu, saat ini sedikit demi sedikit add-ons untuk mozilla firefox 4 mulai bermunculan. Walaupun tidak banyak, tapi pihak mozilla firefox 4 juga menyediakan add-on compatibility report.

Berikut keterangan dari Mozilla firefox tentang add-on compatibility report 0.5 :

After installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, your incompatible extensions will become enabled for you to test whether they still work with the version of Firefox or Thunderbird that you’re using. If you notice that one of your add-ons doesn’t seem to be working the same way it did in previous versions of the application, just open the Add-ons Manager and click Compatibility next to that add-on to send a report to Mozilla.

Even if your add-ons all work fine, if they’re marked incompatible, please let us know that they work fine by submitting a success report so we can encourage the add-on developer to update their compatibility information.

We’ll collect all of the reports and let add-on developers know what users are having problems with, or if their add-ons seem to work just fine in future versions of the product.

If you encounter problems and want to disable your incompatible add-ons again, uninstalling the Add-on Compatibility Reporter should revert to your previous compatibility checking settings.
